Some local firefighters are home after spending a month helping victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Eight Guilford County firefighters worked 10 hours a day, seven days a week in a disaster recovery center in Mississippi.

They were welcomed back by family members Thursday night at Piedmont Triad International Airport.

"I wish I could have done more," said firefighter Ty Jenks. "There is so much need. If they need more help, I think we would be glad to go back."

The firefighters said that, despite their training, nothing prepared them for the devastation they witnessed.
