Residents at Alpine Village apartment complex in Tumwater are uneasy. The complex and its residents have been repeatedly targeted by a firebug, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.
Someone set seven fires on Wednesday night. One fire was started on a couch and spread to the building. The people sleeping inside an apartment were able to escape.
In addition, five trash bins were torched, along with a mattress that was up against a fence in the complex. Three families were displaced by the fires.
These are not the first at the Alpine Village complex. Firefighters have said 20 fires have been reported at or next to the building in the past few years.
Most have been set in trash bins, garbage cans, cars and abandoned homes, but two were set late last year in the laundry rooms in Alpine Village.
Residents said they fear for the safety of children in the apartments.
Firefighters are anxious to find the suspect or suspects fearing more destruction.
The Northwest Insurance Council and the Arson Alarm Foundation have offered an award up to $10,000 to anyone who has information that can help investigators track down and capture the serial arsonist.
