A Chicago firefighter was transported to the hospital after fighting a blaze at a coach house after suffering "exhaustion and shortness of breath,'' according to fire officials.
Chicago firefighters arrived at 3830 N. Paris Ave. at 7:50 a.m., said Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Langford. No one was in the structure when firefighters arrived, he said.
"During the initial attack of the fire one of the firefighters suffered shortness of breath and exhaustion, so he was transported to Lutheran General Hospital,'' said Fire Dept. spokesman Josh Dennis.
His injuries were not serious or life-threatening, added Dennis. Lutheran General Hospital could not immediately comment on the firefighter's condition.
After one of the officers couldn't account for all the members of the unit, a "mayday" was called to make sure everyone was OK, said Dennis.
"A roll call was done and everyone was accounted for,'' he said.
The fire, at the one and a half story frame structure, was under control at about 8:48 a.m.
"Extensive damage was done to the structure,'' due to the heavy volume of fire, said Dennis.
