Tennessee Firefighter Suspended For Risque Photos In Station

March 3, 2006

GREENEVILLE (WATE) -- A veteran Greeneville firefighter has been suspended without pay after some say he took risque pictures at the fire station.

In a letter sent to Lt. Frank Newton, the Greeneville fire chief says, "The following disciplinary action is being taken because of you taking pictures of a Hooter's girl in the fire department."

Greeneville Mayor Darrell Bryan declined comment on the matter.

But 6 News obtained a notice sent to Newton stating he would be on suspension without pay for three shifts.

The suspension is equal to nine days off the job for violating the town's work rule number 10 concerning "immoral or indecent conduct on town property while representing the town."

There are published reports that the woman worked at the Hooter's in Johnson City and wanted pictures taken of her at the fire hall for a chance to make the Hooter's calendar.

As of Thursday, Newton is finishing his suspension and did not return phone calls. He is a 29 year veteran of the Greeneville Fire Department.

One of his co-workers tells 6 News the department is ready to put the incident behind it.
