Long Beach Residents Detain Arson Suspect For Police

An alleged arsonist was arrested overnight after Long Beach apartment residents caught him setting fire to their building, police said.

The residents held the suspect until police arrived at the scene.

The suspect allegedly used a red gas can to help set the fires and was discovered at about 1 a.m. at the Kress Lofts apartments on Fifth Street.

Several residents called 911 while others detained the suspect at the scene.

Long Beach firefighters put out eight separate fires in the complex. Nobody was injured.
