Tortillas Burn in Texas

March 2, 2006
The unusually warm temperatures are creating havoc for firefighters.

Higher than normal temperatures create difficulty for firefighters who battle a blaze at a lower valley tortilla factory.

Fire crews were called out to the 1100 block of Pendale shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the fire started in a fryer at the Best Buy Tortilla Factory.

It then spread up to the roof.

Fire officials say Wednesday's above average temperatures had firefighters rotating to make sure they didn't become dehydrated.

"I guess the worse thing right now for the firefighters is the heat, it's hotter than normal for this time of year so it is causing these firefighters to get dehydrated a lot quicker," says Lt. Mario Hernandez.

Luckily no injuries were reported.

Damage estimates have not yet been released.
