Massive Orlando Tire Fire Ignites

The fire sent hazardous fumes into the air

The state fire marshal's office said a fire that burned thousands of dollars worth of tires early Monday was caused by a some sort of electrical problem, Local 6 News reported.

Fire officials said flames broke out overnight at the Tire Way of America located on East Colonial Drive at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The fire sent hazardous fumes into the air before more than 60 firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.

"Initially, when we got on the scene, we did have some heavy fire conditions," Orange County Fire Rescue Joe Sylvestris. "Being that it was a tire store, after hours, with heavy fire, we went to defensive stance until we could get a handle on the fire. But, we did cruise in and did our searches and made sure it was all clear."

The building did not have a fire alarm or sprinklers.
