Arson String Baffles Charlotte's Bravest

Seven unsolved arsons have been ignited in the area

Firefighters said a fire at a house under construction in Dilworth appears to be suspicious. Fire officials are comparing the fire to others recently set in the area.

Charlotte firefighters responded to the home on the corner of Diana Drive and Iverson Way just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday after a local resident called 911.

Fire investigators said no one was supposed to be in the house and there was no power to the house at the time of the blaze.

The home's estimated worth was $875,000.

Officials said the fire is the latest of seven unsolved arsons in the area. Earlier in April, police and fire investigators said they went door-to-door and attended meetings warning residents that there maybe an arsonist on the loose in Dilworth.

Firefighters said they were able to contain the fire to the upstairs area.

Dilworth homeowner Bill Fitzgerald said the fire was a financial loss and worries that someone may get hurt.

"It's obviously escalating, and what's next? Think about a building with people in it -- not to mention the 25 firefighters in the building. They are risking their lives," he said.

Police said they have some strong leads in the case.
