Pennsylvania Firefighters Injured Battling Blaze

Crews from 15 companies were called

According to fire authorities, three firefighters were injured battling a fire in the cold Sunday morning.

Crews from 15 companies were called to an abandoned apartment building on Corey Avenue in Braddock at about 10 a.m., officials said.

The fire quickly spread to a home next door.

Some neighbors told WTAE-TV the fire might have started from people burning candles to stay warm.

"The building has been condemned," said Braddock Fire Department Chief. "We were up here approximately two weeks ago and had the utilities shut off. Now it is my understanding there were still some people living in the structure without utilities present."

Officials said one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation, while another had an asthma attack. The third slipped and fell on ice, authorities said.
