Fire authorities said a three-alarm fire has displaced 11 families from a Halethorpe condominium complex Friday morning.

Baltimore County fire authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire that erupted at the Riverchase Condominiums just after 9 a.m.

Firefighters responded to the 5600 block of Ringwood Drive and found smoke billowing out of one of the units.

Authorities said the fire spread quickly, and strong winds hindered efforts to fight the blaze. About an hour and a half later, firefighters were able to gain control of the blaze.

Officials said two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Fire officials said 11 of the 12 units were occupied at the time of the fire, and everyone was able to escape without injury.

The fire damaged seven of the units, and five others were damaged by the water used to extinguish the blaze.

Howard County and Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport fire crews assisted in extinguishing the fire. Officials have deemed the building unsafe, and county and Red Cross crews are working to help relocate those involved.
