School Bus Flips Over on Major Deegan Expressway in New York

A school bus flipped over on the Major Deegan Expressway at 233rd Street in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx Friday morning.

(New York -WABC, Sept. 30, 2005) - A school bus flipped over on the Major Deegan Expressway at 233rd Street in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx Friday morning.

The FDNY confirms an overturned school bus on the southbound Major Deegan Expressway at East 233 St in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

The full-sized school bus, which was loaded with over 40 children and several teachers at the time of the accident, flipped just before 11:25 a.m.

According to EMS, 35 children received minor injures in the accident, but there were no reports of severe injuries. Several of the children were taken to area hospitals for treatment and observation.

It appears as though all of the children were off the bus before the fire department or police department arrived. Several children were seen receiving some medical treatment at the scene.

There is no word on what caused the accident, or where the bus was coming from or going to.

The southbound Major Deegan Expressway is closed until further notice.

The bus is owned and operated by Yonkers-based Supertrans NY, Inc.
