A firefighter is in the hospital after a fire broke out on the city's east side.

Investigators say when they arrived on the 4000 block of Temple Avenue around 11:45 Tuesday night, they found a garage fully engulfed. About an hour later, crews were able to get things under control.

A firefighter from Engine 22 was transported to Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injures.

"He was in the process of attacking the fire, there's a report of 2 explosions a small than one major explosions as the firefighter was approaching the structure," Captain Gregg Harris with the Indianapolis Fire Department told 24-Hour News 8.

No word on the condition of the firefighter, and his identity has not yet been released.

Three people were home at the time, and they escaped without injuries.

Investigators are still looking into what sparked the blaze.
