ALTON-- Two days after a motorcycle accident landed an Alton volunteer firefighter in the intensive care unit, several current and former department members are questioning the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Luis Guerrero was responding to a call Saturday night about a brush fire when his motorcycle and a truck collided off 5-Mile Line and Chicago Street in Alton about a block from his home.
Guerrero remained in the ICU at McAllen Medical Center on Monday afternoon, sustained by blood transfusions and a respirator and suffering from swelling around his brain, friends and family members said.
Former and current department members said Guerrero should never have been called out to the fire. They say if there had been better training, leadership and more consistent policies within the department, he wouldn
