An early morning fire forced one south Orange County family from their home Thursday. When firefighters arrived, they could see flames coming from the garage.
The home on Los Angeles Woods Lane is just north of the 417 and west of Landstar Boulevard.
"It was scary," said resident Elijah Bouey.
Firefighters said the blaze started in the dryer and spread throughout the garage. It was the smoke that first woke Bouey. When he figured out what was happening, he could think of only one thing.
"Just get my [five] kids out of the house and my wife out of the house," he said.
Bouey managed to get up and out before the fire got too intense and fire fighters arrived quickly enough to contain it.
"Upon arrival, we found heavy fire in the garage area. Went inside the fire and knocked the fire out," explained Lt. James Kennedy, Orange County Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters said there was definite smoke damage inside the house, but it was not a total loss.
Bouey said he was glad about that, but most importantly his family is safe.
"It was an experience I never went through before," he said.
