The fire was massive

Two people were seriously hurt after a natural gas well goes up in flames in Washington Township.

Crews were called to a massive fire at a natural gas well in Fayette County Tuesday.

Chopper 11 was over the scene a short time after the fire began at 9 a.m.

Huge flames and thick black smoke could be seen rising into the air.

A witness told Channel 11 News they heard an explosion that rattled his home's windows a half-mile away.

Two victims -- a 44-year-old man and a 28-year-old man -- were flown to Mercy Hospital suffering from burns.

One suffered burns to his face, the other suffered second-degree burns to his hands and face.

Their names and conditions are not known.

The well is owned by Atlas America of Moon Township.
