A local firefighter died Wednesday from injuries he sustained while working on his pickup truck at his home on Olympia Drive in Belleville.
David Mohr, 39, was a volunteer firefighter for the Signal Hill Fire Department. On Monday evening, Mohr was performing auto repairs underneath his pickup truck when the vehicle slipped off the ramps being used to prop it up and fell onto his chest.
"David will be sadly missed by his family, friends and fellow firefighters," stated a news release from the fire department.
Mohr joined the department part time in January 2005. He was a plumber for Albern Plumbing Inc. of Maryland Heights, Mo.
"David's quick wit, infectious laugh and smile made him an extraordinary individual," stated the news release from the fire department. "His dedication, commitment and loyalty to the fire service personified the professionalism that he brought to the department."
Mohr was a 1984 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School; a 2002 graduate of Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville; and a 2004 graduate of Ranken Technical College in St. Louis.
Mohr is survived by his wife, Stephanie, whom he married in 2004, and several other family members.
Mohr's organs were donated to the Midwest Transplant Services, according to the fire department.
Visitation for Mohr will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, 309 S. Main St., Pickneyville. A second visitation will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 205 E. Jackson, Pickneyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Mohr's family has requested that memorials be made in his honor to the Signal Hill Fire Department, 329 Hazel Ave., Belleville, Ill., 62223.
