Fire crews battled multiple blazes across the area Wednesday night into Thursday.
Investigators are still determining what started a blaze that destroyed an Altoona home Wednesday night.
The two-alarm blaze broke out at a home on 11th Street about four blocks from Altoona Hospital just before 11 p.m.
The fire was contained a short time later, but caused heavy damage to the building and its contents.
A few hours earlier, firefighters were called to another fire in the same neighborhood. Crews were able to keep flames from a grease fire contained to the home's kitchen.
Also, an early-morning fire destroyed two barns in Indiana County on Fetterhoff Road near Trade City.
Fire officials said one barn was full of furniture and was completely destroyed. The other barn, which housed horses, sustained major damage. No animals were injured.
The fire chief said he believes the fires may have been started by a lightning strike, as neither building had electric service. Monetary damages have not been determined at this time.
In Dayton, firefighters from a dozen companies in Indiana and Armstrong Counties battled a lumberyard fire for several hours Thursday morning.
The fire at the Barrett Lumberyard broke out just before 3 a.m. About 100 people are employed there, but no injuries were reported.
Firefighters said they had difficulty getting water to the scene because there was only one fire hydrant nearby.
At this time, officials have not determined what caused the blaze.
