Aldine Fire Department Chief Scott Turrentine told KPRC Local 2 that the blaze was difficult to attack because the fire was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Huge flames and large clouds of black smoke rose from the scene for more than an hour.

Several fire departments including Aldine, Aldine Community, Eastex Volunteer, Little York, Little York Volunteer, Northeast Fire & Rescue, Ponderosa and Westfield Volunteer responded to the scene.

The fire was under control but still smoldering at 7 a.m.

The owners of the liquor store, which has been there since 1968, said they would rebuild.

No injuries were reported but a puppy named Brownie was rescued from the fire.

The cause has not been determined, but firefighters told KPRC Local 2 that arson might be a possibility.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
