Cincinnati firefighters credit smoke alarms with keeping an apartment fire from becoming deadly.

Fire crews were called to 3522 Reading Road just after 11 p.m. to find fire coming from a first-floor apartment.

While some firefighters tackled the blaze, others helped eight residents on upper floors escape the smoke coming from the burning apartment.

The fire reached two alarms for manpower purposes.

Eventually, residents of all apartments except the one that was burned out were allowed to return home.

Damage is estimated at $10,000. There is no word on a cause for the fire.
