Six members of one family are dead after a raging fire destroyed their mobile home in Lakeshore before dawn Friday, according to WJXT-TV.
Jacksonville Fire-Rescue officials confirmed that two adults and four children died in the home in the 1300 block of Mull Street.
Neighbors said two grandparents and four children lived in the mobile home.
A fire department spokesman described the fire as "a raging inferno" when the first units arrived just after 3 a.m.
"When they arrived here at the scene, numerous explosions could be heard, that proved to be, later, as a result of oxygen bottles, propane tanks, things of that nature," JFRD's Tom Francis said.
Three bodies were found in the rubble as soon as the fire was out. Three more were found in a more extensive search after daybreak.
"I just heard a big boom and come outside and the whole house is engulfed in flames," said a next-door neighbor who identified himself only as David. "I just went over and just broke a few windows and just tried to call some names. Nobody answered."
Firefighters said three victims were found in the bedrooms as soon as the fire was out. Three more bodies were found during a more extensive search of the burned home after daybreak.
Local investigators were joined by the State Fire Marshal's Office in trying to determine what caused the fire. They said no working smoke detectors were found in the mobile home.
