San Diego's fire chief announced on Tuesday that he was stepping down.
Jeff Bowman took over the job about four years ago and among the challenges he faced during his tenure was overseeing the city's response to the Cedar Fire. Bowman released a statement saying that because of the city's current financial challenges, he feels it is in his family's best interest to move on.
"I've spent 33 years -- nearly 20 as a fire chief -- doing something I love, and expect to continue contributing to the fire service, just in different ways," said Bowman in the statement.
Bowman's resignation is effective June 30.
