Apartment Blaze Injures Two Maryland Firefighters

The firefighters suffered minor injuries when an air conditioning unit fell on them.

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. --

A two-alarm apartment fire in Howard County has left two firefighters injured and 18 people displaced.

Flames began shooting through the roof of the building, in the 8600 hundred block of Town & Country Boulevard in Ellicott City, around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Officials said the blaze was so intense that firefighters were forced to battle the flames from an exterior position.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries when an air conditioning unit fell on them. One of the injured firefighters suffered a leg injury. Both were taken to Howard County General Hospital.

A damage estimate was unavailable. There is no word on a cause.
