Publisher's Letter

April 1, 2006
By now you have noticed that this issue of Firehouse® is different. Different, however, is relative. Firehouse® remains committed to the editorial mission that has served us well for the past 30 years. That mission is to educate firefighters to “get home alive†by examining fire and emergency responses; sharing what was seen; what was done and the lessons that were learned.

Firehouse prepares firefighters nationwide to perform their jobs safely by keeping them abreast of the latest techniques and strategies for the various hazards they encounter. We cover all aspects of fire and emergency services for all members of the industry with extensive coverage provided on breaking news, fires, natural disasters and the latest product technologies.

Firehouse has long been recognized as the industry’s voice of authority, but it is time to deliver our content in an easier-to-navigate format. Here’s some of what we did:

  • A new cover design that lets you determine at a glance what’s in the issue.
  • A two-page table of contents to provide more information for each article.
  • Cleaner lines and design to make the issue easier to read.
  • Greater visual impact. Pictures in this industry are dramatic as well as educational, so we plan to use more of them.

A special thanks to Marianne McIntyre, our art director, and the entire Cygnus team for the many hours they invested to make design concepts a reality.

Let me know what you think of the new Firehouse®. I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected].
