INDIANAPOLIS --

Seven people were hurt in an apartment fire on Indianapolis' east side early Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out in a second-floor unit at the Oaktree apartments, in the 4000 block of Mallway Drive, just after 2 a.m.

Everyone inside the apartment ran to safety, but firefighters had to rescue three people from a balcony.

Three people were treated at the scene with minor injuries. Four other people were taken to Methodist Hospital, also with minor injuries.

Investigators said food burning on a stove ignited the fire.
