They escaped after hearing the alarms.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. --

A fire destroyed a mobile home in Port Orange Sunday night.

Firefighters said despite high winds and a malfunctioning fire hydrant, they were able to keep the flames from spreading, and no one was seriously hurt in the blaze.

The state fire marshal's office investigated the cause of the fire but found nothing suspicious.

Three people were asleep inside the double-wide trailer at the time the fire ignited. They said they heard the fire and smoke alarms and were able to escape safely.

"You could see they were visibly shaken," resident Ron Croxford said. "There was a young lady crying on the curb and a man joined her. He was talking about how he spent so much time on the house. They were both visibly distraught."

Firefighters said the blaze ignited in the living room but the cause is unknown. They said the family did the right thing by getting out when the smoke detectors sounded, but they lost everything.

Four vehicles on the south side of the home were damaged by the fire, and neighbors on both sides sustained slight damage to their mobile homes.
