One man was killed and two were seriously hurt when they were caught in machinery at a business in industrial south Seattle on Wednesday morning, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Firefighters were called to Seattle Iron & Metals Corp. at about 9 a.m. to rescue three men trapped in a metal-sorting machine.

The men were inside the huge machine, which was turned off at the time, doing repair work.

"There was a failure at one point and they became trapped in the machinery," said Lt. Harold Webb of the Seattle Fire Department.

Dispatchers told rescue crews it was a "mass casualty incident," and Chopper 7 video showed firefighters swarming a large machine that appeared designed to crush cars.

Video from Chopper 7 showed firefighters lowering two victims from the machine. Medics took the men away to a hospital.

One is listed in serious condition and one is listed critical with broken bones.
