An 11-year-old boy and his father helped save some of the 50 families left homeless after a fire swept through their Orange County, Fla., apartment complex, according to Local 6 News.

Firefighters said an electrical problem on a bottom-floor apartment unit at the Cypress Landing Apartments located on Winegard Road apparently sparked the blaze.

Flames quickly spread into an attic and through the complex.

A boy living in the apartment complex smelled smoke, told his father and the pair began to warn others living at the apartments.

The fire was ruled accidental Monday morning.

There were no reported injuries.
