Authorities said a Springfield man was rushed to a local hospital after his house exploded on Thursday morning. The explosion happened at a home in the 100 block of Sycamore Street.
Investigators said the call came in around 9 a.m. A neighbor heard the explosion and called for help.
After the initial boom, smoke poured out of the home, according to officials. Firefighters worked just under an hour to contain the fire and remove the charred furniture from the home.
Fire officials said the man had trouble with his stove, which they suspect led to the natural gas explosion. Officials said the victim was not injured as badly as they expected, given the force of the explosion.
