Pembroke Pines, Fla. --

Miami Dade Fire Rescue trained a team of Firefighters Thursday on how to handle a rescue atop a 120-foot crane.

Miami Dade Fire Rescue Captain Jeff Strickland said, Theres people up there, the operating engineers that we need to be able to take care of. Also, we have seen fatal accidents that we have seen in the south Florida area, so we want to make sure that as the fire department we can sufficiently respond to those incidences.

The firefighters were trained at an apprenticeship school for crane operators.

They climbed to the top of the crane, hoisted up rescue supplies and lowered a 180-pound dummy to safety on the ground.
