MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. --
A Montgomery County firefighter was hurt battling a blaze at a Montgomery County tax office Wednesday.
The two-alarm fire happened in Hatfield on the 1600 block of Bethlehem Pike. Firefighters cleared the scene after working for hours to put the fire out.
No one was inside when the fire started around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital suffering from heat exhaustion. Crews said the fire completely destroyed the building.
"The fire was called in by a passer-by that saw it burning. When the first engines got here it was already up into the roof. With the fire going through the roof it was not safe to go inside. So we just fought it from the outside, did the best we could. Now we're trying to clean up the hot spots," Colmar Fire Company Chief Mike Hagan said.
The fire marshal is expected to be at the scene later Wednesday to determine what started the fire.
