Georgia Firefighter Collapses During Training, Dies

A volunteer firefighter died Friday, a day after collapsing during training at the Georgia Fire Academy.

Joey Turner, 48, was a member of Homerville/Clinch County Volunteer Fire Department.

During a basic firefighting class, Turner collapsed in cardiac arrest, according to information posted by Chief Billy Goldfeder.

Turer was immediately treated by fellow personnel who performed CPR and used an AED. He was transported to a local hospital, but later transfered to Medical Center of Central Ga. where he was removed from life support on Friday afternoon, reports indicated.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Roundtree Funeral Home in Homerville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. Interment will be in Victory Methodist Church Cemetery, Manor, Ga.
