Fire investigators said the fire started a restaurant.

The New Orleans Fire Department said electrical problems caused a five-alarm fire on the edge of the French Quarter on Tuesday.

Firefighters battled the five-alarm blaze, which started around 3 a.m. and burned for several hours in the 600 block of Canal Street.

Fire investigators said the fire started at the Popeye's Chicken restaurant on the corner of Chartres and Canal streets.

Firefighters and police had to evacuate nearby hotels but people have since returned to their rooms.

Officials said 10 police officers were treated for smoke inhalation when they tried to get people out of a Holiday Inn. Fortunately, no other injuries have been reported.
