A crash involving a tanker truck forced the evacuation of several dozen homes in Stanislaus County Friday.
The truck, loaded with formic acid, went off Highway 99, crossed a frontage road, and crashed through a wall and into the back yard of a home in the town of Keyes. The truck was carrying about 40,000 gallons of the chemical.
Fire crews worked to free the driver, who was trapped in the cab of the truck. Authorities said he suffered only minor injuries.
Traffic slowed along nearby Highway 99 as drivers passed the accident scene.
Crews remained at the scene late Friday and were trying to determine how best to off-load the remaining chemicals from the wrecked tanker trailer.
