Firefighters are constantly practice using the jaws of life to be ready, just in case there is an accident like the roll over that happened on Tuesday morning, where two people were stuck inside this SUV.
While setting-up the jaws of life only takes a few minutes, it can still take awhile to get a person out. Because the jaws can cut through just about anything inside the car, so firefighters say they have to be careful.
"You can put the spreader between the door and the post and spread the door apart and get it open, you can use the cutters for cutting off the roof if you need to or for cutting the hinges on the door, if you need to get the door completely out of the way," said Lt. Kenny Carroll, El Paso Fire Dept.
Firefighters say they are concerned about newer vehicles that are made from stronger steel because it makes it difficult for the jaws to cut through.
Because of this, firefighters say they are looking at ways to improve the jaws of life to keep up with technology.
