Texas Firefighters Battle Paper Recycling Plant Blaze

A three-alarm fire forced the evacuation of employees as flames and black smoke shot from a north Fort Worth paper recycling plant on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. at Vista Fibers in the 1100 block of Northeast 23rd Street.

At least 20 trucks and 80 firefighters responded.

Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles, NBC 5 reported.

The fire started when a front-end loader next to the 45,000-square foot building caught fire, fire officials said. Employees tried to douse the flames.

Fire officials said their biggest challenges were strong winds and low water pressure.

No injuries were reported.
