BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Ohio --

The frigid temperatures made things tough for fire crews in Butler Township early Thursday morning.

Officials said a chimney fire spread in a home in the 1100 block of Frederick Pike around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters said the response time was quick because the fire station is just down the street from the home.

Fire officials said the cold weather forced the department to call for extra help. They said because of the frigid temperatures, they had to alternate firefighters to make sure that they were rested and had a chance to get warm.

The family who lived in the house had already safely made it out of the house by the time fire crews arrived at the scene.

Damage was contained to the chimney and attic.
