At least eight homes were damaged in an early-morning fire in Trenton, N.J., on Saturday.
Trenton fire officials said the blaze broke out just before 1:30 a.m. on the 8200 block of Mechanics Avenue.
No residents were injured but one firefighter suffered minor injuries. He is expected to be OK.
Fire officials said the fire started on a vacant property.
"We were alerted by a passerby who saw the fire, stopped and started banging on doors to tell the local people there was a fire," said Deputy Fire Chief Rich Snyder.
"I was yelling, 'Fire! Fire! Get out!'" said Valentino Rivera. "It is Spanish people, so I translate. Nobody believed me until they looked outside."
The Red Cross is assisting six families whose homes were destroyed in the blaze.
The cause is under investigation.
