HOUSTON --
A Good Samaritan helped a family escape from a burning northwest Houston home late Sunday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
A taco truck owner banged on the window of a home in the 4300 block of Sherwood Lane near Helberg Lane shortly before midnight to alert the family to the fire.
"We heard something hit in there, like a loud pop," Cassandra Loya said. "By the time we got in there flames were already up to his window."
Loya, her five children and another adult escaped from the home without harm.
Firefighters battled the flames for about 20 minutes.
"It appeared it started on the outside and moved on the way in," said Steve Cichon with the Houston Fire Department.
The home sustained significant damage, officials said.
"Everything's gone, but at least my kids and all our family are still here," Loya said.
Loya said the family had lived in the home for a little more than a month.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews said it may have started in a storage shed.
