HOUSTON --

A child playing with matches started a two-alarm apartment fire, officials told KPRC Local 2 Monday.

Houston firefighters battled the blaze at the Napoleon Square Apartments in the 6000 block of Rampart Street at about 6 p.m. Saturday.

The fire damaged six units, investigators said.

Officials said a 6-year-old boy playing with matches and a candle caused the fire.

The child has been referred to the HFD Juvenile FireStoppers program. Officials said that without proper education, 81 percent of youths who have played with fire will do it again.
