LANCASTER, Pa. --

Firefighters responded to Lancaster Regional Medical Center this morning after smoke appeared in the building.

The hospital enacted a code red, closing all fire doors in the facility as a precaution. Firefighters helped ventilate the smoke, which officials said never got outside of the hospital's service area.

Officials said a backup generator that overheated caused the smoke. They said maintenance workers were doing a monthly check on the machine when the incident happened.
