PREBLE COUNTY --

Authorities said a truck driver ruptured his fuel tank, leaking diesel fuel onto a heavily traveled road and into the parking lot of a Preble County truck stop.

Hazmat crews were called to the TA Travel Center off State Route 127 to clean up the spill. Officials said Route 127 was closed for more than an hour because of the spilled fuel.

Officials with the Preble County's Emergency Management Agency said the accident happened just after the truck driver took the exit ramp from Interstate 70 east to State Route 127. Investigators said the truck went off the road in a construction area on 127, rupturing the truck's fuel tank. The driver then pulled into the truck stop where the majority of the diesel tank emptied.

Firefighters estimated approximately 300 gallons of fuel spilled on the road and parking lot.

EMA officials said the spill was contained to the parking lot and did not get into any water sources.
