LIVONIA, Mich. --
Four classrooms at Webster Elementary School in Livonia were damaged when the school caught on fire on Monday.
The school is located on Lyndon and Newburgh roads.
"It's scary, and it's sad at the same time," parent Annita Constable said.
Firefighters said the fire started around 1:20 a.m.
The school is closed for Presidents Day, but officials said the 350 Webster students will be sent to Taylor Elementary School on Monday, about three miles away, while crews work to repair the damaged school.
School district officials said they will continue to provide transportation for the 350 students, which include about 150 special needs students.
The district decided to close Taylor Elementary School at the end of last year. Teachers will return to work Tuesday, to get Taylor Elementary ready for students on Monday.
Fire officials said a back window was broken and accelerant was poured into the building before it was set on fire.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but an arson investigation is under way.
"It's sad to think that someone would want to do this to a school that has been around for a long time," said parent Shannon Meyer.
Police said another attempt took place on Dec. 12. The same back window of the school was broken into, but no fire was started in that case.
