Mutual Aid Crews Handle North Carolina Fire

Since two Salisbury firefighters were killed, personnel from neighboring departments have been filling in.

SALISBURY, N.C. --

Firefighters in Salisbury responded to their first real fire since two of their own died in a fire last Friday.

Wednesday's fire happened at a home on South Caldwell Street. But firefighters weren't from Salisbury, they were from Charlotte, Gastonia, Monroe, and other nearby towns.

They've been filling in since last Friday so the Salisbury firefighters can grieve for their fallen colleagues.

One Salisbury firefighter did show up. Capt. Jeff Youngblood said he felt obligated to help.

"It's just incredible what these guys have come in and done for us," he said.

Youngblood actually came directly from the visitation for fallen firefighter, 19-year-old Justin Monroe.

It was held Wednesday night at the Miller's Ferry Fire Department. So many people showed up, they had to be bused in from other locations to pay their respects.
