Minivan Driver Killed in Fiery Staten Island Crash

The driver was the only occupant.

A minivan overturned in the Graniteville section of Staten Island Tuesday afternoon, killing the driver.

The vehicle crashed on a ramp to the Staten Island Expressway after exiting route 440 North. The van rolled into the grass on the side of the road, bursting into flames and sending a large plume of white smoke into the air.

Firefighters surrounded the vehicle and sprayed the flames with water. The driver, pronounced dead at the scene, was the only person in the car.
