SEATTLE --

A three-alarm fire that damaged a Seattle townhome under construction is being called arson, said the Seattle Fire Department.

The fire was first reported around 10:50 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Eighth Avenue West in the Queen Anne neighborhood, Lt. Sue Stangl said of the Seattle Fire Department.

Firefighters reported upon arrival that huge flames were coming from a townhome under construction, they called it a 'firestorm.'

Combustible material outside the building was used to set the fire, said fire officials. The bare wood of the home made it easy for the fire to spread quickly, which is why it went to three alarms, Stangl said.

Quick work by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby homes, Stangl said.

Although the fire was contained to one townhouse, it had two units. Damage is estimated to at $2 million because each unit was to be listed at $1.2 million.

Firefighters said there was no message or note that indicates the arsonist was upset with the new construction.

No injuries have been reported.

Anyone with information should call 1-800-55-ARSON.
