A large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away as a workshop and garage burned at the River Valley Disposal company facility, which is near the intersection of Deascenti Drive and Franklin Road.

Workers were inside the facility when the fire started, but it's unclear if anyone was hurt.

Firefighters from Columbia, Wrightsville, Mount Joy, Washington Borough and Mountville all responded to the fire. Crews had difficulty getting water to the scene. They had to pump it in from nearly a half-mile away.
