Fire Claims Life of Virginia Man

SPEINGFIELD, Va. --

Fire officials are investigating a fatal fire that occurred early Wednesday morning in Springfield.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at a house in the 8000 block of Flint Street.

Firefighters received reports that two people may have been trapped in the house.

Firefighters did find one person inside. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Fire crews said a second man apparently lived at the house but was not at home at the time.

Neighbors reported hearing a few explosions right before the fire broke out.

The incident remains under investigation.
