One woman suffered a broken leg; others in the accident were reported to be OK.

A group of woman heading to the Pittsburgh International Airport Tuesday morning crashed their sport utility vehicle along Interstate 79.

The crash happened on the northbound side of the highway, just past the Carnegie onramp.

Firefighters were able to reach two of the women inside the car, which went off I-79 and came to rest at the bottom of a hillside, police said.

A basket was lowered to retrieve the trapped people.

"They were still in the vehicle," said Rennerdale Fire Chief Ralph Shipley. "They needed help. Extrication. We wrapped them in backboards, threw some rope down over the hill and extricated them up the hill."

One woman suffered a broken leg. The rest were banged up, but otherwise OK, state police said.

State troopers on the scene said Eric Williams, 41, told them he hit the women's vehicle by accident while swerving to miss someone that almost ran him off the road.

All lanes of the highway are now open.
