DETROIT --

Detroit firefighters called for extra help in extinguishing a two-alarm house fire on the city's west side Tuesday morning.

The first fire crews to arrive at the scene saw the house fire on Parkside and Fenkell roads spreading to the neighboring home and called for extra help to get the fire under control.

Fire investigators said one home was heavily damaged in the fire and the other home had only minor fire damage.

Firefighters rescued one man from the blaze, but he did not suffer any injures.

An investigation into how the fire started is under way.
