KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Authorities are investigating after a person was found dead inside a burning home at 32nd Street and Holmes Road early Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to what was reported to be a vacant house at about 4:30 a.m.

The house was fully engulfed when crews arrived. After firefighters knocked down the flames and went inside, they found the person under a pile of debris.

Authorities are unsure if the person is a man or woman. Investigators said there were no utilities connected to the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
